This saree is the imagery of my boro masi’s bari, to those endless summer holidays when the afternoons stretched long and lazy. Days of Topse-Feluda, Byomkesh in my hand, eyes lost in chhuti-chhuti , or even the dreamy worlds of Lalkomol-Nilkomol. Those were not days of scrolling or streaming, but of discovering little secrets of life in the verandah, the garden, the pages of books. Masi’s bari had a big rongon tree. Its bright red flowers blazed in the sun, as if summer itself had dressed up. I remember sitting quietly, watching two little birds — — hopping between the branches. One would pluck a single strand of rongon in its beak and offer it to the other. To my young eyes, it was love. The first time I saw them kiss, not in the human way, but in a way nature had scripted for them. It amazed me — how every creature, big or small, found its own language to love, to woo, to multiply. My head, full of paka-meye questions with the knowledge of biology chapters, tried to make sense of it all. Years later, those fragments stitched themselves into this design. Rongon and Robin Blue, whispering love against an art-deco inspired Kolkata verandah. A piece of my memory turned into print. This saree is hot red, bold, unapologetic — like summer itself. Like those holidays when every little thing carried wonder. Because isn’t it magical how all elements of nature — flowers, birds, gardens, stories — flow together in rhythm?
