Sandesh is a Bengali periodical, established by the legendary Upendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury in 1913. For more than 100 years, under the editorship of Sukumar Ray, Subinoy Ray, Satyajit Ray, Leela Majumdar, and at present Sandip Ray, Sandesh is catering quality literature to the young readers of Bengal. But Sandesh is not only a literary magazine, it signifies a revolution in the printing technology, cover arts and illustration of Bengali publishing industry. Satyajit Ray wrote in his memoir that his first memory from his childhood days about Sandesh is that of compositors sitting in a line setting alphabets on blocks and that even in his later days the smell of Turpin oil reminded him of the printing of Sandesh at the press located in his ancestral house. The art works from Sukumar Ray and Satyajit Ray- two of Bengal.s most talented illustrators- are the inspiration of this Sandesh themed saree from Naksh.
